Librarians' jobs is to manage the library and give any assistant to those who need it. They can help people locate books or different types of information. They also keep track of books and make sure they are organized in their right category. I think the most important job of a librarian is helping others because without them there would be no one else to help people. Therefore, people wouldn't know how to check about a book, use the computer to look up information, etc. The cool things that librarians could start doing is making people become more interested in books and showing people, like senior citizens, how to use the computer. The way that librarians can make people become more interested in books is having kids go on field trips to their central/public library, and librarians can show them how to look up books, how to get a library card, etc. I think it would be more beneficial if librarians focus on younger kids because if children are influenced at a younger age, they could possibly grow to love books and have more knowledgeable about how to access the library as a resource. It'd be cool if librarians showed elderly people how to use the computer since basically everything is about technology and computers. This can help elderly people keep up with modern society. The library of the future will be a type of computer device that everyone will have, and it will allow people to get access to books through the internet; it will be like an eBook. The device will explain to people how to look up information using the internet, provide an infinity amount of books, and there will be a person who is always available to answers people's questions. Basically the library of the future will allow people to access it from home. The library of the future will be computer devices since computer are more commonly used.
Hi Auriel! I really enjoyed reading your post. I agree the most important - and most rewarding thing librarians do is help people. I really enjoy helping patients understand their illness and the treatments that have been suggested. Lots of libraries have programs, or are working with community centers to help seniors understand how to use computers and effectively search the internet for all kinds of information including health information. It's great that you see this as an important role for the library.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of library field trips. It's a great way to see what the library has to offer and to meet the staff. I worked at a public library before working here, and I loved it when the neighborhood schools would come to the library. We got to show the kids some really great books and fun things to do on the computers. I also worked with a lot of senior volunteers who went through an extensive computer training program so they could teach others how to use the computer.
I hope you are enjoying the pre-collegiate program, and are doing some fun summer activities.
